Phear

After 6 weeks of inactivity here on the photoblog, I thought I'd scour the archives for something to post. So here is something a little out of the ordinary; it's my foray into rock & roll photography. I recall it being too dark to shoot any clear images, so I played around with different kinds of blur. The subject is Phil Solem, the Rembrandts' lead singer, who was performing with Ryan Smith, of the Melismatics (and also known for telling very believable witch stories to impressionable young Iowans), at some place in Minneapolis sometime around last Thanksgiving. They call themselves "Phear and the Bullet" for reasons that remain mysterious.

I haven't taken too many pictures so far during my 6 weeks of one-handedness. But I did manage to get out for an hour today, slog around in the woods, and snap a few. No matter where I go, though, it seems I always end up taking pictures of leaves...

It seems like years ago already that we were in Montana, but it was really less than a month. Anyway, time flies when you're not posting to your photoblog. This shot was taken about 1/3rd of the way up the big hills shown in the previous picture. It sure was a very pleasant Christmas-day hike!

Here's another Montana picture, from just east of the Bitterroot River near Lolo. I am not entirely happy with how the black & white conversion went. Maybe there are just too many things going on at once for me. Anyway, it is still a pretty scene. I hope you enjoyed 2007's batch of pictures.

Ice Caught In A Net

We've had freezing rain here for a few days, and it looks like there will be a few more days to come. This afternoon, the roads were completely dry but everything else was icy, so it was a perfect chance to sneak out and take some icy pictures. Laura spotted this net at the Japan House at the arboretum -- I would have completely missed it.
