Columnar Basalt with Reynisdrangar

When lava cools under the proper conditions, it can actually form long hexagonal crystals formations, called columnar basalt. Just down the shore from Vik, you can get a good appreciation for this bizarre phenomenon. Incidentally, this is also one of the best places in the world to see puffins.
