Thistle Bud, Homer Lake

We just got back from geocaching in the Homer Lake region with my parents. This picture was taken along some of the new trails we found northwest of the lake. The flower is a member of the thistle family, perhaps a "wavyleaf thistle" (cirsium undulatum). Its bud opens up into a wavy medusa of lavender (stay tuned to the photoblog).
