The Porch

After four years, some of our plans for the house are starting to come together.

Here's what the front of the house looked like when we bought it (April 2005):

In the intervening time, we had taken down all of the screens and repainted everything on the porch. Here's what it looked like this morning before starting the final phase of work:

And finally, here's what it looks like now, after we spent the day putting up balusters:

Comments:

  1. The creativity you have going on these days is just insane. Winning photographs (I am sorry I can’t make it to Lincoln Square “Mall” to see them), the Darwin picture (my sisters and I were greatly amused) and now home improvement. The porch looks lovely (as does the weather–where is your snow, you southerners?)

  2. So, then just out of curiosity I googled “very gradual change we can believe in” and among a bajillion blogs with links…Cory Doctorow put you on boingboing? Really? Really? Dang.

  6. Wow! Your porch just looks so inviting. Awesome job. Great news about the photos. Except, I think Noah’s pic should have taken first place. ;)

  7. Mike, I so enjoy looking at your pictures on the internet…I bring them up periodically just to see what you have been doing. I could tell that was Noah by the lashes because that is exactly how his dad looked when he was that age. You probably don’t remember your stays at the Kadel farm while you all lived in Minden but I won’t ever forget them. Enjoy your days in Montana and your new careers. Greetings to your brother.

  8. Wow Mike, after catching up on your blogs from the past month, I am stunned! The house looks wonderful. Congratulations on the photo contest–at last! Amazing response to the Darwin “stuff"!

  9. Great! job on the house, you have many wonderful skills.

    * Also wanted to thank you for providing the IP Range Calculator, it has been very beneficial.

  10. When I saw the first pic, I was disappointed. But then I saw you took down the screens…this allows you to look more immediately intimidating when you’re on your rocking chair cradling the shotgun.
